Crouch City Council Contests November Elections

Bob Powell, Crouch City Councilman, moves to Contest November elections which seated three new council members.

Were Mistakes Made On the November Ballot?

During last nights regularly scheduled Crouch City Council meeting, Councilman Bob Powell made pointed inquiries to City officials and staff about possible mismanagement of the November election.

Residents of the City of Crouch voted on November 6th to fill 3 seats on the City Council. Jackie Kraupp and Dawn Smith were elected to 4 year terms, while Richard Messick won the 2 year term position.

Following the election local citizenry approached council members with a copy of a ballot, given to them prior to the election, that did not match the voting day ballot. Questions abound as to how and why the original ballot, never approved by the council, was changed prior to election day.

State law requires that the ballot be published 32 days prior to the election day. The Crouch City Council ballot was never published.

Councilman Powell, after questioning city officials, determined to bring the matter to a vote. Council members in attendance decided to contest the election. It will now be up to the district judge to determine the outcome.

Crouch is the only incorporated city in the Garden Valley area. Approximately 100 eligible voters live within the city limits. Voters turned out in record numbers. Plans for growth in the Crouch and Garden Valley districts have voters speaking out.
