The Softer Side of Garden Valley

5th Annual Fiber Fabric Faire

Come to the Community Hall, in Crouch, on Saturday October 4th from 10:00 - 4:00. It’s the annual Fiber and Fabric Faire. Each year the Garden Valley Quilters sponsor this fun event.   Here you’ll find, not only some great quilters, but knitters, weavers, spinners and fiber artists of all kinds.

Whether you want to learn about a fiber art, find a warm and fuzzy gift for someone special, watch a craft demonstration, or take a chance to win a hand made quilt,  this is an event for you.

I look forward to the Fiber and Fabric Faire each year.  The handmade items are truly works of art.  The textures, colors and patterns are beautiful and unique.  Last year I met several women who raise alpaca, spin the wool and knit the garments.   It was great to learn about this homespun, traditional craft.

Aside from treating myself, visiting with neighbors and friends and finding some great gifts,  I had a wonderful time.

Don’t forget that, by attending the Faire, you are also contributing to the community.  Part of the raffle proceeds go the the Crouch Ambulance fund.Garden Valley Idaho fiber Faire

Hope to see you there.

Oktoberfest in Garden Valley

Garden Valley Idaho in the fallSaturday, September 27

Visit Garden Valley Idaho

Garden Valley Parade of Homes

Southfork Landing Oktoberfest

What better time to visit Garden Valley, Idaho than winter, spring, summer and especially fall.  The air is cool and crisp, the leaves are turning and  their is lots of fun planned for this weekend.

Garden Valley Idaho Crosstimber fallThe Garden Valley Parade of Homes will feature open houses on over 20 homes, available for sale in the area.  Just stop by the Garden Valley Properties office to pick up a parade route map.  There is no charge for the parade.  You can visit area homes at your leisure from 10:00 - 4:00.

Southfork Landing plans a fun day with an Oktoberfest.  There will be live music, a kids carnival, beer keg races, beer sampling and a dutch oven cooking competition.   Visit the Southfork Landing web site for more details.

While in town, take notice that the new K - 12 School is well under way.  The ground breaking for the new grocery store was two weeks ago and the dirt is moving.  Notice the new businesses and new homes under construction.

It’s true! I’m biased.  I don’t think there could be a better place to call home.  See you Saturday.

Garden Valley Park Dedication

Weilmunster Park to be Dedicated August 15th

The Garden Valley Recreation District has announced the date for the Weilmunster Park dedication. This is an important event in the history of Garden Valley. For years the Garden Valley Recreation District, headed by Jamie Anderson, has worked tirelessly to make the park a reality. They identified the property location and have applied for grants, solicited donations, managed fundraisers, and kept the community involved and informed.

Garden Valley Recreation District Park

I can’t think of a better location for the park. I especially like the idea that it includes some Middle Fork river frontage. No matter what happens to private and public land along the Middle Fork in the future, our kids will always have a place to play in the river. The addition of the walking path which ties the park to the school property is a huge plus. Although not fully developed yet, the plans for the park will offer ball fields, picnic areas and playgrounds.

The ceremony is planned for Friday, August 15th at 4:00 pm.

Governor Butch Otter plans to attend. The park is a great asset to our community. I plan to attend the ceremony so that I can personally thank all of the Garden Valley Recreation District board members and all of the folks who have made the park possible. See you there!

Current Board Members are:

President Jamie Anderson
Vice President Jeff Bass
Secretary Holly Mortimer
Treasurer Carol Smith

Garden Valley Parks and Recreation District Benefit

Music in the Mountains to benefit Garden Valley Parks and Recreation District.

Swing and Sway.
Bring the Kids to Play
Ride the Shuttle
Taste some Wine
Water is free
If you have a bottle

Help develop the Garden Valley park while having a great time with friends and family at the annual, Garden Valley, Music in the Mountains event. I promise the music will be better than my poetry. (I have no idea how I aced that poetry class in college)

Music in the Mountain

In the past several years this event was held in the Garden Valley Park and featured strictly Bluegrass music, the event has been a great time, enjoyed by all. The musicians came from all over and were wonderfully talented. This years event has moved to the South Fork Landing property and the genre has been expanded. 20% of the event proceeds are targeted for the Garden Valley Parks and Recreation District. It should be the usual great time, great music and great company. Southfork Landing has set up a web site for the event. You can find more info at www.gardenvalleymusic.com

Check out the list of sponsors along with the event greenovations. Although it’s not mentioned on the web site, Jamie says you can get tickets at the gate. (door, first tree, guy at the parking lot??. There isn’t actually a gate.)

Hope to see you there.

Independence Day

4th of July - Salute The Red, White and Blue

I always look forward to the 4th of July in Garden Valley Idaho. The town’s celebration is ….. hmmm, I’d say robust! There will be no shortage of flags, grilled food, duck races, water guns, parades, uniforms and fireworks. The whole town will come together in one central location to mark the most important anniversary in our countries history ….. and have fun doing it.

Challenge! Meet Me At the Flag Raising.

The Garden Valley 4th of July Calendar of Events starts with a Flag Raising Ceremony at 8:30 am at the Garden Valley Properties office. The scouts raise the flag, General Kane honors us with a few words about the “Stars and Stripes” attendees recite the “Pledge of Allegiance”, and the gifted cast of the Starlight Mountain Theater lead us in the “Star Spangled Banner”. It’s an appropriate start to the day’s events.
I am always pleased to see the same folks attend each year. I am always disappointed to see the same absences each year. I challenge you to start your day with a reflection of what the 4th of July really means. Bring your kids, bring your Moms, Let’s not forget the real meaning of this anniversary.

GOD BLESS THE USA

I really enjoy this annual event and look forward to it every year. In addition to the great wine tasting, Terrace Lakes invites quality artists and Craftpersons to attend the festival. Some of my favorite finds have been wood carvings, willow furniture, quilts, hand dyed fabrics, scented candles and jewelry. Believe it or not, I usually start my Christmas shopping at the Terrace Lakes Wine and Art Festival. It’s tough to think about Christmas in the summer sun, but I’ve had great luck with the gifts I have given from the Terrace Lakes artists. I usually find something special for myself, too.
My favorite part though, is relaxing and visiting with friends and neighbors, meeting new friends and enjoying the wine, music and food. Hope to see you there!
